At Kumbuka, we believe that summers are about letting kids be kids, through good old-fashioned fun, lots of time to play, and exciting activities and trips. Kumbuka is a summer camp open to all children ages 6 to 13 years-old. Join in on the fun and see why parents are raving about Kumbuka!

When I bring my child to Kumbuka, do I need to sign him or her in?

Yes. When you drop off your camper at Kumbuka, you need to stop at the front desk and have a Camp Staff member sign your child in.

Do I need to sign my child out when I pick them up from camp?

When you pick up your child from Kumbuka, please stop back at the front desk and complete a sign out sheet. Children will not be released to anyone not listed on the approved pick-up list. New parents, please be prepared to show ID when you pick up your child until our Camp Staff is familiar with you. If you are having someone pick your child up from camp that is not on the approved pick-up list, please call ahead of time and speak to the Camp Director.

Where can my child put his or her belongings when at camp?

Once your child has signed into camp, he or she can choose any empty cubby to put their belongings in. Cubbies are not assigned, so your camper may have a different cubby from day to day.

Do I need to pack a lunch for my child?

Each child must bring their own lunch and snacks, except Wednesday when we provide a Healthy Hot Lunch for all the campers. We have a designated morning snack time and our lunch hours vary following morning activities. Snacks are only provided in the afternoon.

Please also note that we strive to be a nut-free zone.

What snacks are provided?

Healthy snacks are served in the afternoon–such as fruits, veggies, and healthy beverages. We also provide supplemental fruit or veggies every day.

What are Water Days?

Every Wednesday, weather permitting, Kumbuka will have special visit to the pool and playtime that involves water. Campers should be prepared to get wet on these days.
We also ask parents to pack a towel, plastic bag, and an extra change of clothes.

Does my child need to bring anything with them to Kumbuka?

We ask that all campers bring a bottle of sunscreen with them on the first day of camp to add to our shared sunscreen bucket. We apply sunscreen twice per day (once in the morning, once in the afternoon). If your child has allergies or needs special sunscreen, please put his or her name on the bottle and let one of our Camp Staff know.

Unfortunately, we do not allow part-time registrations. Exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis to assist families in immediate need. Please call or e-mail us for details.

Do you accept government child care subsidies?

Unfortunately, we are unable to accept government subsidies for our day camp. Government child care subsidies are only applicable for child care programs whereas this is a day camp (Note: Day camps and day cares are different).

Can we do a site visit?

The facilities that we rent from our host sites are shared spaces. We typically set up the rooms the week before camp starts and clean-up within the week after camp. We do not operate year-round. You can also contact us to arrange an in-person visit once camp has started.

“Kumbuka Summer Camp was an amazing experience for my kids! My son conquered his fear of getting in the pool & continued spending more time outdoors. My shy, quiet, reserved daughter was loudly singing camp songs, laughing and showing me the all they do when I picked her up. Her self-esteem and independence increased tremendously. They can’t wait to go back next summer!!”
